thinking, dreaming and doing....

Back in February, when I last wrote here, I was realizing just how little I could take on beyond tending home and family and looking towards the Summer to figure out about Small Meadow Press. Well here is August speeding along and I see no sign of anything papery coming out of my studio...beyond my calendar that received a proper cover after my last post and goes with me everywhere now.

I did alot of thinking at the beginning of the Summer and realized that my heart and mind don't go towards the making of "beautiful and useful papers for everyday life" any longer. The paper stays tidily stacked on the shelves and the printer is turned off and blessedly quiet. And I am content for it to remain so. I may still make my calendar, or more likely, a new version of it that will be slightly smaller and include lots of pages for planning and keeping things in order.

I am still pondering that possibility.

But my heart hasn't lost any of its fascination with Everyday Life. Quite the opposite...and all that I used to pour into papery creations-the simple beauty, the celebration of the seasons and banner days, the nourishment to be found in books and poetry, the particulars of homemaking and staying connected with others and the earth...well, I am pouring all of that into the making of a lovely online place. A private and lovely place of inspiration...and beauty...and gentle tasks...that will add up over the days and months to what I know so many of us are longing for....more simplicity and peace and contentment in our homes and our everydays.

I've been dreaming this for years...remember telling my dear customers about it at my very last show in December of 2009...and have been working on the nuts and bolts of it for the past few months, with much more work to do. But I shall write here again soon, with more news and perhaps some glimpses. If you are not already signed up to be notified when I post here (top left column), you might like to sign up now, so you will know just as soon as there is news to tell.

I wish you very summery end-of-Summer days...and please leave your thoughts here for me to find. I miss you all!

How lovely to find you here today! What exciting news! You have made me curious.

Packing and readying my daughter to return for her second year of college. Hoping there will be less tears this year. This is the hardest part of having an only child. I was a little lost last year and hope I will be a little more prepared this time.

Wishing you cooler days and warm hearts,

Yes, I agree. It is a blessing to see you write here and to anticipate what is coming: news to tell!

Hopefully it will be what Emily wrote in her poem:

" A Something IN a Summer day --"

Autumn begins when?

Lesley, the words you chose to describe your own blog are exactly the ones that draw me here to read and be in your world for awhile: simple, lovely, peaceful, tidy, contentment, nature, gentle, beauty, thinking, gentle, dreaming, and nourishing. Your style is relaxed yet provacative. I love it!

You had previously encouraged me to start a blog. Well, recently I signed up for an online creativity class. The assignments were fun to do and included setting up a blog, but it was made in a hurry, is only weeks old, in it's infant stage and needs improvement. I want it to be more simple, softer, with a message or two. Hopefully it will grow into a place that will interest more people and be pleasing to the eye, as yours is. At least I'm giving it a try.

I look forward to a 2012 calendar of yours if that is what you are wanting to do;-)

As always,
Kathy

Oh goodness...I can't wait to see the new online place as well as the more smaller calendar you have in mind. :) Enjoy these last days of Summer.

I'm signing up now to subscribe. Can't wait to continue reading. Truthfully, though, I am so so sad not to be able to get your notecards anymore. Every year at Martha's Market I would buy two or three packs, and hord them for special notes. Do you by any chance have any left over - the book ones? I don't know how I'll get by without them, I really don't. If you do have any stock left over, I would happily buy them all. You can email me at christystrick@gmail.com. I missed the Market this past year, and don't know if you were there, but you will be so missed in the future.
